Students participating in the Island Inspiration Arts and Writing Contest, due by May 16th, will create works that celebrate the Vineyard Preservation Trust’s 50th anniversary of preserving Martha’s Vineyard landmarks. Categories include:

  • Painting: Capture the essence of Vineyard landmarks through color and texture, whether depicting a lively moment at the Flying Horses or a reimagined scene from the past.

  • Sculpture: Create a three-dimensional piece inspired by VPT properties, representing historic figures, architectural elements, or abstract interpretations of preservation.

  • Photography: Capture the unique details of VPT properties, highlighting craftsmanship, light, and the ongoing interaction between people and these historic spaces.

  • Drawing: Illustrate a scene showcasing Martha’s Vineyard’s history and charm, from historic events to iconic buildings, blending past and present.

  • Architecture: Design a new structure or reimagine a VPT property with a modern twist, while respecting its historic integrity.

  • Digital Art: Use digital media to creatively merge the past and present, like reimagining the Carnegie or animating the Flying Horses.

  • Essay: Write about the importance of preserving Martha’s Vineyard’s landmarks and the Vineyard Preservation Trust’s role in safeguarding the island’s heritage.

  • News Article: Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vineyard Preservation Trust, highlighting its mission and impact on preserving the island’s history.

  • Short Story: Craft a story centered on a character’s connection to a VPT landmark, exploring how preservation shapes their journey or identity.

All submissions should reflect the theme of preserving the island’s history and the ongoing efforts to protect its landmarks.
