About

Adam Moore, President & Forester, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation

The southern pine beetle (Dendroctonus frontalis) arrived on Martha’s Vineyard nearly a decade ago, but it wasn’t until 2023 that a significant outbreak emerged. Often referred to as a “tree killer,” the beetle primarily targets pitch pines and poses a serious challenge to Island forests. Adam Moore, who has been working closely with the outbreak since 2023, will share firsthand experience managing the beetle’s impact and offer insight into what Vineyard residents can expect in the years ahead.
