The Historic Walking Tour is a 75-minute guided journey through Edgartown, offering rare access to some of the island’s most iconic historic buildings. Led by educators from the Vineyard Preservation Trust, the tour begins at the Carnegie Heritage Center, former Edgartown Library, now home to the  “Living Landmarks” exhibit and installations of fine scrimshaw and important Island artifacts.

From there, the walk continues to the Edgartown waterfront, with stops at the Norton Boathouse and Osborn Wharf. Winding past the clapboarded facades of Whaling Captains’ homes, including the site of America’s oldest pagoda tree, the tour highlights the Vineyard Gazette Building, the exterior of the vaunted Federated Church, and other architectural jewels of Edgartown. Guests then step inside the storied Daniel Fisher House and the island’s oldest home, the Vincent House, before finishing at the Old Whaling Church, one of New England’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and home to Margot Datz’s extraordinary, recreated murals.
